If you’re an engineer and you love what you do, you most likely have list of things you want to work on “on the side”.

These include tools to make your life easier, whether directly related to your day-to-day or not.

Since I am an automation freak, it’s easy to accumulate things you want to work on but it’s hard to carve out the time to work on them. If they have a high ROI, it’s obvious, but sometimes it’s not very clear.

If you follow this blog and The Creative Network streaming series you already know that I am pretty excited about streaming, sharing and educating.

So, today, I am excited to announce I am going to start streaming EVERY SINGLE day of the week (Mon-Fri 9pm-11pm PST).

How does it work?

We (Stephens Xu) and I, are pair programming together, since Stephens is more of a junior engineer we found the process to be extremely educating. We tend to stop and explain things more.

It’s not a play-by-play and it’s also not a very slow tutorial process, it’s that middle ground that really works (based on feedback we got).

Feedback/Questions

Feedback and questions are *highly encouraged* during the stream, feel free to ask question and participate in the process.

Be polite, introduce yourself to the channel first. No question is stupid, don’t be shy.

Streaming channels

We are streaming to 3 channels in parallel. Actively watching the chats on 2 channels.

  1. https://twitch.tv/kensodev — Watching chat
  2. https://www.liveedu.tv/kensodev — Watching chat
  3. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCuFT6CtDnOGvcn9WdAvBusA — Not watching chat. Using Youtube to record the stream history.-

What makes this ambitious?

Fair question :)

Basically, streaming every single day, at a specific time, sticking to the schedule and making sure the projects don’t drift away from their goal.

I’m a family man and juggling all of that and my managing my fitness is going to be quite taxing. That’s why

Projects We are working on

Right now, our main project (The Creative Network) takes a little bit of a back step. We want to try and deliver smaller projects in easier to consume chunks.

Jira and Git(hub) integration

Working with Jira can be a real pain and integrating it with the git(hub) flow can be an even bigger pain.

Having a streamlined process to create issues and grabbing issues to work on is essential for me. It’s something I’ve been wanting for a while now.

Deployment manifest and promotion

Will explain and add project details as we move closer to project start

The Creative Network

This streaming series is already in progress.

You are welcome to join

We are starting TODAY 9pm PST

Come check it out

Today, we are going to start with the Jira-Git-Github integration. It is going to involve building a CLI from scratch.

Designing a CLI that is friendly is more art than science, there’s API integration and GIT integration and quite a bit more stuff.

It’s going to be fun
